    SUTA Toronto Chapter presents:

American Civil War and Abraham Lincoln

    by Mr. Ali Rahmani

    Sorento restaurant

    Abstract:

As of today, American civil war still remains the deadliest war ever fought in the American soil.

Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee were some of the key players in this war and they are considered among the best politicians and military generals in the history of the United States.

Also Gettysburg Address by President Lincoln delivered during the Civil War is one of the most famous speeches in American history (Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech makes a reference to Gettysburg Address).

It is interesting that only half a century after civil war, America established herself as a global superpower and it shows the effectiveness of the efforts during the period of reconstruction after civil war.

In this event we focus on causes of the American civil war, issue of slavery, secession of the Southern states from the Union, President Lincoln’s leadership and diplomacy, turning point of the war and Confederate (south) surrender at Appomattox, VA.

    Speaker Biography:

Ali Rahmani is a graduate of the school of Management and Economics of Sharif University. His career has been in Strategy (planning and execution) and Corporate Finance.

He has a broad knowledge of modern western history (post Napoleonic era) especially periods of World War I & II, Cold War and American Civil war.
