Dear Dr. Sheikholeslami,
Dear Dr. Hojabri,
Dear Dr. Aria,

I would like to thank you for a great and successful SUTA reunion – the best one so long. Thanks to your and the reunion committee's great job I enjoyed every single moment of the reunion. All programs were well arranged, well managed and well executed. Thank all of you very much and please give my thanks and greetings to members of reunion committee as well.

The only dark point during the reunion, as we all know, was that many of our fellow attendees carrying Iranian passports were deported, could not be with us and we got to hear terrible stories about how brutally our friends were treated by US authorities in different airports. All of us were disappointed but I witnessed all your activities and think that in this regard you as members of the board of directors, and the reunion committee, could not do better than all what you did. I am also optimistic that SUTA's future measures and campaign to protest against authorities are going to have positive effects.

Dear Dr. Hojabri, I was in California some days before the reunion and was following your news and emails minute for minute. I was shocked when I got to know about those first cases when our friends were deported, but I have to admit that I was even more shocked when I read your message telling our friends carrying Iranian passports NOT to depart for the reunion. I wondered how you could take such a hazardous responsibility. But now, when we know better what was waiting all others by arrival to USA, I have to admit that it was a very courageous and correct decision made by you and this way you saved those who received your message, could and did listen to you from all the pain some of our friends experienced.

Thank all of you again for a fantastic reunion.
I am counting down to see you on our next reunion,
With best regards

PS. 1: Just one comment: While discussing "Natural disaster Management" I missed a topic about what to do AFTER the disaster to minimize the casualties.

PS. 2: I am sure that you have several theories about why they did this to our reunion's attendees. But let me tell you 2 (more?) theories:

  1. An Iranian journalist living in SF says: The security and intelligence services had got some information about an ongoing terrorist action plan using technical stuff. Seeing that so many technical people were traveling to USA made them suspicious and decided to not to allow them to come into US mark. This terrorist action showed later to be the "liquid bombs" plan. I do not believe in this theory because in that case these "terrorists" should not be allowed to board the planes;
  2. There are several Iranian political organizations and individuals who wish to overthrow Iran's regime AND who do "khosh-raghsi" for USA. When these people see how successful and powerful SUTA is, they can easily decide to gain credit by telling the US authorities about us pointing out that according the SUTA's by-laws this organization has "goal of contributing to the advancement of the academic programs at the University and more importantly having a measurable impact on the technological advancement of Iran", adding some nonsense about nuclear technology. Take Mujahedin or all sorts of royalists just as an example. See a comment written by one of these royalists on the new "visa" section of the SUTA site.
I believe in this theory.
